Norman Lundin is revered for realistic interiors, landscapes, and still-life paintings that capture moments of tranquility. Lundin’s first exhibition was in 1963. To date, his academic realist work has been presented in more than 70 solo shows across the U.S. The simple, everyday objects that appear in his works are deliberately divested of emotional association or narrative. In the 1980s, he rendered closely cropped views of doors and corridors, while paintings made in the 2010s focused on his studio and still-life studies. These later works include interior scenes looking into windows, bringing together his landscapes and domestic settings. Lundin’s work is held in numerous public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. He is professor emeritus at the University of Washington’s school of art, where he has served on the faculty since 1964.
