Hutchinson artist Carolyn Loutzenhiser began painting in watercolor in the late 1970s. She specialized in floral and still life paintings and did architectural subjects showcasing the importance of light and shadow. Her love of color is wonderfully apparent in her soft, sensual, transparent watercolors. Good design is also a hallmark of her distinctive style. She specialized in florals and still-life paintings. Loutzenhiser was, for the most part, self-taught with some private instruction. She had been accepted into juried shows throughout Kansas, and her work has earned many awards and recognitions. She was selected to do the Botanica poster in 1993 and again in 2008. Loutzenhiser was a signature member of the Kansas Watercolor Society and also served on the board for the Kansas Watercolor Society. Loutzenhiser maintained a studio/gallery in Hutchinson. She passed away in 2012. The Hadley Art Collection showcases nine of her pieces.
