As boys, my twin brother and I were sent to live with relatives in the Swedish Midlands for a good part of the Summer. We spent our days exploring the small town (VÄmhus), enjoying the company of the other children and most of all soaking in the beautiful and mysterious landscape. Deep lakes and lofty mountains, tranquil pasturelands and damp coniferous forests.
The two most enduring memories of my trip are of the rugged beauty of the landscape and the simple but elegant design of the homes and durable goods. Sweden is well known for it's designers and respect for materials.
This series of work seeks to knit my memory of the landscape with my respect for it's craftsmen. Each piece in this series takes its name from an element of the landscape that sticks in my memory.
