About the artist

Sanya Gbemileke

Sanya Gbemileke is a Nigerian artist. He grew up with his family on the mainland of Lagos, and retains a crafty love of artistic images from a young age. He grew to develop a strong chemistry with the arts which led him to study Fine and Applied Art; there he obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in art in 2014. Sanya worked as a studio artist in the House of Bezalele Studios which gave him the opportunity to be a member of the crew executing the Lagos @50 graffiti and various mural-painting projects in Lagos. He has participated in two group exhibitions.

Gbemileke is a freelance artist whose artistic approach is to explore a multitude of forms of aesthetic expression in order to capture his audience. His medium is Acrylic and enamel on canvas, and he is also prolific in other mediums such as oil, pastel, and mixed media. He combines signs, and symbols in his paintings, layering these over already painted images and drawings. His rendition and surface is not restricted to canvas and murals. Music, nature, forms, and space play a major role in his essence of art. He aims at opening visual insights and mysteries preserved for this age, through unleashing the multifaceted dimensions of art, incorporating techniques, mediums, and styles together to convey his message to the world.
