In 2011, Velázquez relocated to Berlin, integrating into the city’s experimental, theory-driven art environment. Influenced by European critical philosophy and the city’s unique relationship to memory, architecture, and diaspora, he developed a visual language rooted in analog photography, layered exposures, filmic texture, and conceptual reflection.
His artistic honors include the Prix Académique Industries & Cultures / Art Faber Award (2018), recognizing excellence in visual thought and conceptual innovation. As a curator, his decade long exchange with artists was shown at the exhibition One For Tor – Never Leave (Berlin, 2023), developed with Trevor Lloyd Morgan, engaged the emotional and archival dimensions of intergenerational exchange, memory, and artistic legacy.
In 2023–2024 he was appointed Curatorial Fellow of the Schleswig-Holsteinisches Künstlerhaus, where he curated intergenerational dialogues with a focus on feminist programming and queer narratives such as inviting Astrid Proll to share photographs of her art making after incarceration.
His analog photographic works — represented by Gitana Rosa Gallery — reflect a long-standing investigation into the phenomenology of images, the layering of visual memory, and the intuitive interplay between the human eye and mechanical vision.
