A bronze statue is standing on the floor. 85 kilograms of chocolate are applied to the sculpture and formed into the shape of a bodybuilder. When the chocolate sculpture is finished, the chocolate is melted away, revealing the bronze statue. The chocolate, therefore, serves as a human shell that disconnects from its inner self through time and eventually falls away.
My final presentation was presented with two projectors facing into opposite directions. On one was the build-up shown, on the other was the melting process, accompanied with interviews from people all over the world, talking in their own language about the topic "Globalisation" and what it means for them. The speech by the artist was provided in Spanish, English, and German, in order to emphasize and do justice to the multicultural togetherness of our time.
Why this shape?
The bottom is an oversized corn seed where symbolically a new stem grows out, in our case the legs of a human. Like a tree has yearly rings, on the breast area of the sculpture there are also ring-alike pattern visible-18 to be exact. Why 18? Age 18 you are officially and adult in Austria from a legal perspective which means you carry all the responsibilities of life from that birthday on with you and I found it is a profound chapter and mark of my life to realize that the cushion pillow and the protection of your parents are gone and now it is up to you what you make out of your life. The head itself is highly polished and the contours are reduced to the minimum. You don't see ears or nose and the head's position is slightly leaned forward, as together with the folded hands it looks like the little figure is praying. It is a timeless prayer for Millenia to come and in order to overcome death there is a linear taurus on the back of the shoulder, almost in the style of the Lascaux cave-drawings. In the legends of Minotaurus there was someone riding on his back, killed him and could therefore overcome death. Here is the taurus itself on his back for the same reason. In summary the sculpture is a multi-faceted mixture of historical context, personal believes abstract beauty in timeless style. Even in 2000 years you will wonder and discuss the meaning and thoughts behind the artist's mind and intention.
