Journal Entry - March 15, 1918

The trenches bear witness to both the horrors of war and the unexpected blossoming of affection I never thought possible. Amidst the deafening cacophony of artillery fire, I found solace in his presence, a Russian pilot with eyes that held both the depths of the sky and the shadows of his own untold stories. Our glances across the bleak expanse spoke volumes that words could not convey, a silent language of longing and camaraderie that defied the boundaries of nationality. My heart, battered by the brutal realities of this conflict, dared to hope for a connection that transcended the brutality of the battlefield. But as his heart soars into the heavens, my heart plummets, for the gulf between us is not just the miles that separate our worlds, but the unspoken truth that his heart may never mirror the depth of my own.
