Born in Peking, China, Sister Marda Tsai was educated by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration and later joined the congregation. She came to the United States to study at Viterbo University, earning a degree in Education with a minor in art, and later received a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from the University of Guam. Throughout her career, Sister Marda taught art and academic subjects while leading workshops in Oriental painting, Western painting, calligraphy, and Tai Chi for both children and adults. Alongside her artistic work, she served in spiritual ministry as a Eucharistic minister and continued creating art throughout her retirement. Sister Marda passed away at Villa St. Joseph in 2009.
