Mearns Series & North-East Landscapes
These works continue my long fascination with the Mearns landscape — the rolling fields, patchwork textures, and distant glimpses of sea or castle. They are not depictions in the literal sense, but emotional improvisations on a theme — like variations in a piece of music.
Each painting grows through a process of collage, layering, and overpainting, where fragments of memory and imagination are woven into a tapestry of colour and pattern. The resulting surfaces are as much about time and experience as they are about place — fields become rhythm, skies become tone, and the familiar becomes dreamlike.

Mearns 1
A vivid orchestration of yellows and magentas beneath a deep indigo sky. The distant houses seem to hover between real and imagined, their whiteness a counterpoint to the dense colour chords below. The composition feels musical — a crescendo of warmth rising toward the cool horizon.
