Cowie Burn Snows

This painting is structured around the movement of water through winter light. Cowie Burn is suggested through layered blues and turquoise, with darker bands pressing across the surface like shadowed banks or overhanging trees. The composition is held in balance by a pale horizontal passage that reads as snow or reflected light, cutting cleanly through the centre of the work.

Marks are built and partially erased, allowing earlier layers to remain visible beneath later decisions. Patterned fragments and subtle colour interruptions introduce moments of warmth within an otherwise cool palette. Rather than describing a specific view, the painting captures a transient state — a landscape briefly transformed by snow, movement, and fading light.
