Early Monochromes:
These paintings focus purely on the physicality of painting, of paint and the interaction of the painting surface with light.
This work is guided now by intuition. Color, canvas and the brushstroke are the primary determinants of each piece. These works are the record of a dialog between my hand and eye, the unconscious and the forces of aesthetics. This is also a record of experimentation with materials – color and mark-making. In a monochrome field.
Preverbal:
Before memory, language and ideas there is a kind of consciousness that we all shared as infants. This was a time when life was an adventure of the senses, such as texture, color and shape. It was also a time of flowing amorphous emotions, coming from within and without. These largely monochrome paintings are a celebration of color and flowing improvisational brushwork.
