This painting captures Capitol Reef National Park, Utah, on a road trip that also took us through Zion and Canyonlands. I was drawn to the warmth of this desert landscape, the way saturated red rock in the foreground gives way to a muted pink in the distance. Utah is full of this reddish-brown canyon color, and I wanted to capture that shift in intensity as the land recedes toward the horizon.
This southwestern landscape painting is part of my ongoing series of national park and desert scenes, painted from real places I've traveled to and returned to in the studio.
Painting size: 24 x 24 inches, oil on a 2" deep wooden cradled board.
Framed size: 26.25 x 26.25 x 2.75 inches deep.
Framed in a natural maple floater frame for a clean, contemporary look. Wired and ready to hang. Because this piece is painted on a wood panel rather than stretched canvas, it's a bit heavier than a traditional canvas painting, but that same wood support also makes it especially durable.
Original oil painting by Erica Norelius, Richmond CA. One of a kind. Ships insured.
