The shared binary language of textiles and computers is emphasized in a carpet inspired by microelectronics. “Binary Echoes” is a call and response between two disparate sources: an antique Turkmen rug and a Nvidia AI chip. The "hook" motif in the center is borrowed from the source carpet, and sends a mixed message when recontextualized. Because it looks like a dollar sign, it calls to mind the astounding wealth being generated by AI. Yet, in the context of the tribal carpet, the motif is employed to protect against evil. A double reading establishes this textile as a talisman for the AI age.
