The Chain Bridge crosses the Merrimack River in Newburyport, MA.
The first bridge over the navigable waters of the Merrimack River at this site was built in 1792. Today's Chain Bridge, constructed in 1909, is a replica of the original suspension bridge built in 1810. Don drew the bridge from the river's edge, sliding down the rocky banks. Years of lost fishing lures, metal sinkers, and rusty hooks are embedded in the mud of the rocky riverbed.
