Midwestern artist, Thomas Colemen’s print Ak-Sar Ben is riddled with complicated rhythms of light and darks creating a narrative indicated of something Biblical and divinely inspired. The word “Aksarben” has specific meanings to Nebraska and the Omaha area as a neighborhood, horse race and stock show location and literally Nebraska spelled backwards. But it’s the image of the man facing the almost mythically possessed animal that captivates with a sense of adventure indicative of the classical coming of age story of a boy facing the giant to prove he is now a man.
