Watermelons have the same colors as the Palestinian flag: Red, Green, White, and Black. Israel has suppressed the display of Palestinian flags since 1967 and more recently the flag has been banned outright in public places. Watermelon images have become a symbol not only of Palestine itself but of Palestinian resistance for freedom and justice for the Palestinian people.
