In April of 2026, settlers from a nearby illegal outpost erected a barbed wire fence and planted an Israeli flag, preventing the children and teachers of the village to access their school. The IDF collaborated with the settlers. Israel has issued demolition orders to forcibly and permanently displace the people of Umm al-Khair from their homes. Sitting and reading in front of the barbed wire is an act of resistance and resilience in the face of ethnic cleansing.
