In a wispy landscape rendered in muted pastel tones, twelve brides stand in a line and four horses appear on the right. This small but inventive work recalls a fête champêtre, or rural festival, popular in rococo paintings in early eighteenth-century France.
Paintings of brides appear throughout Lyanne’s career, symbolizing a woman’s transition from childhood to adulthood. They are often escorted by horses.
