The white ibis (*Eudocimus albus*) is a striking wading bird found throughout the southeastern United States, Central America, and parts of South America, particularly common in coastal marshes, mangroves, and wetlands. It has brilliant snow-white plumage covering most of its body, contrasted dramatically by its long, deeply curved orange-red bill and matching bare facial skin and legs — colors that intensify during breeding season. In flight, the tips of its wings reveal bold black patches, the only break in its otherwise pristine white feathers. White ibises are highly social birds, often seen foraging in large flocks along mudflats and shallow water, probing the ground with their distinctive curved bills to snatch crabs, crayfish, insects, and small fish. They nest colonially in trees or shrubs near water, and their graceful, synchronized flight formations — long lines or V-shapes across a coastal sky — make them one of the most recognizable and elegant birds of the American South.
