David Heatwole's symbolic painting is the first to include the Japanese craft of origami. The two origami birds, according to Heatwole, are symbolic of the artist and his wife, who were both baptized into Christ and confirmed into the Orthodox Church on the same day (completely at random), despite living hundreds of miles away. Heatwole also metaphorically reflected his artistic friend Dave Curtis in this painting during the difficult divorce that Curtis and his wife were going through at the time the artist was creating the picture, which is another intriguing aspect. Heatwole used a bottle of alcohol, an envelope, and a note that were lying on the ground close to the water's edge to symbolize what Curtis was going through and the news of the divorce Heatwole and others received from the artist. Thing to note here is that the painting of the dove came before Heatwole discovered the zip code outline of his home town in Martinsburg that looks like a bird in flight.
