The artwork features a surreal composition with a prominent, realistic green eye embedded within a fluffy white cloud in a bright blue sky. Below the eye, large tears drop into the ocean. Beneath the tear, there is a water surface rendered in deep blue, where the tear drop creates concentric ripples and a small splash at the point of impact. The horizon line is faint but defines the separation between sky and water, with a small strip of orange suggesting a distant land or sunset. The painting juxtaposes the natural elements of sky and water with the unexpected human eye, evoking themes of emotion, nature, and surrealism. The intricate golden frame enhances the presentation of this vividly imaginative scene.
“Tears from Heaven”
This painting represents God looking down from heaven with sadness and compassion for all the pain and suffering in the world. It represents God’s desire for us to repair, heal, and transform the world and to correct injustice. In Judaism the concept of humanity’s shared responsibility to heal the world is called Tikkun Olam. This concept is a fundamental moral principal in modern Judaism.
This painting has many layers of meaning and symbolism, inspired by my father who painted while he was completely blind.
Another interpretation of this painting is the concept of continuing to be
influenced by my father Edwin long after he died. In this painting, Edwin
is looking down on me from heaven. His eyes are no longer blind. He has
clear vision, perspective, and insight from his healthy beautiful green eye.
He is simultaneously crying tears of joy and tears of sadness. His tears of
sadness represent his appreciation of my heartache, grief, pain, and suffering.
He empathizes with my profound insight and my newfound capability to
understand and express all my genuine feelings. His tears of joy represent
his appreciation of my life successes, achievements, triumphs, and emotional
healing. He validates my humanness, my lovability, my worth, my competence,
my spirit, and my soul.
His tears of joy also represent his pride and appreciation for inspiring me
to create beautiful, meaningful, heartfelt therapeutic paintings, which have
helped me mend my own broken heart and wounded spirit.
The beautiful orange yellow sunrise heralds this new day, this new chapter
in our lives. The calm tranquil blue water in the ocean represents the vast deep
intimacy Edwin and I shared together. Beginning with our submarine rides
together in the pool, extending throughout our lives, water represents Edwin’s
and my genuine deep mutual love and affection for each other. The tears create
waves and ripples in the water which symbolize Edwin’s ongoing, reverberating
impact on my life and psyche. His presence perpetually resonates in my life,
even though he resides in heaven.
