About the artist

Kiki Boniki

As a long time creative, I have traversed many avenues of artistic expression as a means of processing complex human emotions as artist and subject. My most recent explorations revolve around the LGBTQ experience as marginalized people and the constraints BIPOC and trans people face as being further marginalized within the community. In doing so, celebrating and uplifting those community members that are often overlooked or disregarded.

My history is in costume design, theatre arts and collage. I always considered classical fine art to be something beyond my grasp and maybe it still is. The covid pandemic led me to start experimenting broadly with sketching and running out of sketchbooks, led me to digital medium. I now freehand draw with a mouse in Photoshop. Having experimented with digital pencil but it somehow feels more foreign than mousing… eeeeek.
