I painted “Storm Runners” after witnessing a
lightning storm sweep across the Okavango Delta, where the air seemed to change before the first drops ever fell. The scent of rain rose from the earth, carried on an excited wind that rippled through the grasses and stirred every living thing into motion. Animals moved with purpose and instinct, sensing the storm long before it reached us.
In that moment, the delta felt alive in a way that was almost electric. The sky flashed, the light shifted, and the landscape held its breath between thunderclaps. I was struck by the beauty of that tension-the urgency, the rhythm, the wild coordintation of creatures responding to the same powerful force. This painting is my attempt to capture that fleeting drama: the energy of the storm, the movement of the herd, and the remarkable feeling of being present in a place where nature speaks so clearly.
