Normally heads-up is a message that alerts or prepares. So here is your heads-up - This summer a new exhibition slated for the C3 Gallery will open on May 25, 2023, featuring portraits by Coronado local artists. The City of Coronado Cultural Arts Commission is seeking visual artists to exhibit artworks to be displayed in the 2023 Summer Exhibition “Heads-up!” in the C3 Gallery.
Brodrick Antoine was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1991. Being raising in such a culturally artistic city he was destined to absorb a love for art. It was around the age of six when he we witness an older sibling drawing a familiar cartoon character when he realized that visual art was what he wanted to explore. After being inspired to create an illusion of realism with pencils during his primary years Brodrick decided to audition for the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA) Riverfront. NOCCA is an art institution which specializes in extensive training of all art forms. Upon acceptance Brodrick was able to explore all forms of visual arts from: sculpting, photography, printmaking, 3D, vast form of paintings, graphite, and charcoal.
After years of exploring art in college Brodrick became discouraged with the lack of stability present for unspecialized artist and decided to become a member the United States Navy. He later married his wife prior to his first deployment. With the lack of communication, he decided to dabble in portraits and would occasionally ship his wife drawings of their favorite moments together. He never suspected that this would be when he realized his true passion. While deployed other service members would observe his personal drawings and commission him for other pieces. Brodrick took heed and began to further educate himself on how to capture these moments. After perfecting his craft, he discovered that there was a unique audience for portraits.
While traveling with the Navy Brodrick has been commissioned for murals and custom pieces for celebrities and business around the United States. His love for his wife and now kids has inspired him to continue to create. Currently Brodrick is an active-duty member of the United States Navy stationed at North Island Naval Station and a free-lance portraitist.
