Normally heads-up is a message that alerts or prepares. So here is your heads-up - This summer a new exhibition slated for the C3 Gallery will open on May 25, 2023, featuring portraits by Coronado local artists. The City of Coronado Cultural Arts Commission is seeking visual artists to exhibit artworks to be displayed in the 2023 Summer Exhibition “Heads-up!” in the C3 Gallery.
Anne Lanman didn't come to painting until 1993 when a cousin who was an artist invited her to try it. The cousin said, "You have been a docent at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. for 16 years and never tried to paint? We just are going to put color on paper and see if you like it." After that first afternoon Anne quit docenting and all other activities and signed up for every art class she could find in the Washington area. Thus began 30 years of painting in oils and watercolors.
When she was giving art tours her favorite paintings were the old Dutch flower painters. Anne has local florists make large floral arrangements (sometimes with 30 or more flowers) in her personal collection of vases and paints from the arrangements. Because her husband takes photos of the flowers when they are fresh, Anne can continue the projects long after the flowers have faded.
Anne also has painted portraits and landscapes, been in shows and was included in an earlier Celebrate Coronado Banner Series. Her paintings can be found in homes in California, Florida, Georgia, Texas and Virginia.
