Chris gets close here — right down to the surface of the Georgian Bay granite, tracing every crack and fissure in the ancient Precambrian rock, a single vein of lichen running through the warm rose stone. Only when you lift your eyes does the bay open up behind: blue water, distant hills, windswept pines at the edges. This is what his ecology training looks like on canvas — the landscape read from the ground up, the small details given the same weight as the wide view.
