Lucy’s love of horses is evident in her many drawings of them, complete with friendly expressions, wiry manes and knobby knees. With great patience, she starts with pencil and then carefully strengthens the line using a fine black pen. Sometimes she will apply color, but often she stays with black, completing the drawing with areas of intricate, delicate pattern. This approach gives her work its graphic punch. Lucy loves a good laugh, but her art can also address serious subjects; one of her projects is a set of drawings based on photographs of people living on the street in their makeshift shelters.
