Alan draws mask-like faces floating on the white page. His subjects can be cyclopes, aliens, or “average guys,” and they sometimes have a striking resemblance to the artist himself. Using pens and colored pencils, he often retraces a line repeatedly resulting in strong, emphatic marks. A man of few words, Alan shows his sly wit and droll imagination with his pithy descriptions of the lives of his characters.
