26 Doorsteps
I love the colours in this painting. The doorstep is more like a flight of steps but this one appealed. The weathered nature of the steps. The little towers at each side. There appears to be a twist in the nearer one but it's actually an illusion caused by erosion.
The colours remind me of how stone develops a green hue as it ages. Algae and moss build up and into the cracks and crevices.
The bottom left and top right were almost black, but the salt and water have separated out the composite colours in the ink providing subtle shades of pink and brown.
The steps themselves are grand. Each one capped with stone. The leading edges marked with a diamond pattern of holes. Functional, eminently practical but attractive as well.
There are a few trails of blown ink, but most of the colours morph into adjacent colours, edges blurred and unrefined.
Bloom upon bloom. Random squiggles of ink help to modify colours. Hinting at stone on the wall coping stones, pale green on the door and lifting the darkness on the wall to the right.

The Twenty sixth of a series of 50 paintings all 7" x 7" detailing architecture features from buildings in the Buckinghamshire area. Part of a challenge to create 50 paintings in 2018.
