"I guess the maini thing is the recognition by one's peers that as an artist you have attained a certain level of accomplishment and professionalism. One is the reccomended to the RCA jury by others that have met the standards the RCA has put in place. That you are deemed worthy of that same designation (rca) means your art is seen as having met a certain national standar, as set in place by the RCA. Has it impacted on my career? Not in any noticeable way. For me it's been a very quiet honour and it's importance or prestige varies. To the general public it's seen as a great honour; throughout the "art" world it can be dismissed as nothing more than some sort of meaningless "old boys club" (even though a number of women are RCA). Yet this part is interesting - many artists may dismiss the RCA but all are quick to respond if suddenly they get reccomended by an RCA friend for inclusion into this national body."
