These ponies mark the first collaboration between Kevin Box and Chinese origami artist Te Jui Fu. The pieces celebrate the bright, colorful papers so often associated with origami, while also drawing on kirigami, a related paper-folding art whose name means "cutting paper." Here, just four scissor cuts in the paper square bring the ponies' legs and ears gracefully to life.
The symbol on the back of the large pony is the artists' shared signature. The Chinese character for Te Jui's surname, Fu, means "teacher," and the box enclosing it stands for Kevin's last name, two names, and two traditions, folded into one.
