Settled Grace by Barbara J Zipperer

What small quiet makes a room feel like home? “Settled Grace” was inspired by that hush after a windy day on Lake Michigan — when everything softens, and even the air feels still. I love how the layered whites and gentle shoreline tones give this swan a sense of calm presence. Where would you place this quiet companion in your home?

What small quiet makes a room feel like home?

"Settled Grace" presents a swan folded into itself — a large, soft arc of white plumage set against a pale, lake-light sky. Subtle lavenders and pinks wash the horizon while shoreline reeds in the foreground root the scene. The textured brushwork and layered whites suggest down and wind, a sheltered presence that still listens.

I made this piece thinking of Lake Michigan evenings...the cool light, the hush after a day of wind. When I create something, I want it to last—not just physically, but emotionally. Where would this calm companion live in your home? Over a reading chair, by a bedroom window, or in the entry to greet guests?

A gentle presence that would make a quiet, comforting addition to your space.
