This art quilt has dynamic and vibrant vertical elements creating a sense of rhythm and movement across the piece. The artwork is an abstract composition featuring a series of vertical, elongated shapes with rounded tops. These shapes are arranged closely together in a row, each containing multiple layered colors. The color palette includes bright and varied tones such as green, blue, brown, purple, turquoise, white, beige, red, orange, pink, and black. The shapes have a fluid, tapestry-like texture.
After hand cutting pieces of solid colored fabric, designing the composition, and sewing the pieces together I layered the quilt top with cotton batting and stitched many closely-spaced lines through the layers to add texture. This is called matchstick quilting.
