Large geometric shapes join blocks in bold colors in this abstract art quilt composition. Large blocks of red, pink, blue, orange, green, brown, and yellow intersect and overlap, creating a dynamic and balanced arrangement. The textured surface adds depth, while the placement of shapes generates movement across the quilt. The use of contrasting colors emphasizes the distinct forms, producing a lively and engaging piece.
After hand cutting pieces of solid colored fabric, designing the composition, and sewing the pieces together I layered the quilt top with cotton batting and stitched many closely-spaced lines through the layers to add texture. This is called matchstick quilting.
