"Phragmites" is an original minimalist ink drawing on paper by Astrid Steingrueber, 50 x 70 cm (2026), depicting a quiet reed bed at the water's edge. Clusters of reeds rise in quick, vertical ink strokes, their reflections dissolving into loose horizontal marks on the still surface of the water. Vast areas of white paper are left open, becoming mist, sky and water at once. Rooted in the calligraphic tradition of East Asian brushwork and a contemporary European approach to landscape, the work is a study in restraint, where a few gestures are enough to evoke silence, space and the soft light of a lakeshore. A unique original for collectors of minimalist ink art and calm, contemporary landscape drawings.
