This piece is one of five "children" theme bronze sculptures selected by City Council in 2001. The sculptures were places in each of the four City Wards and at City Hall.

"Brittany" was purchased prior to the City of Thornton establishing an official public art program. At the time, the Public Art Committee was City Council members, and sculptures were mostly purchased from catalogs or artist websites.

As public art staff were hired, Thornton expanded the public art process to include residents, artists, art teachers, and community stakeholders in the selection of unique pieces of art.
