Elizabeth Shannon

Elizabeth Shannon is mixed-media and installation artist who grew up on the Atchafalaya River at the foot of the vast Wetlands—a waterway teaming with the activity of the seafood and oil industry. Shannon has always been fascinated by this landscape and co-dependent relationships between the local industries and ecosystems. This interest has led to the creation of sculptural and photographic works throughout her career which are often cautionary allegories responding to the natural and man-made threats of industry leading to social, environmental and political upheaval. Through the use of found objects, often time worm antiques, Shannon explores the physical, aesthetic, symbolic, philosophical and social dimension of the human experience.
