Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, Kamalei Martinez grew up surrounded by an island culture rich in color, beauty, and creativity. She moved to Dallas as a young adult, bringing those early influences with her as she built a life in Texas.
A self-taught creative, Kamalei has spent much of her adult life serving on staff at her church while continuing to explore her own artistic voice. Today, creativity is woven into a very full life as a wife and mother raising three young children.
Her work reflects a creative instinct shaped by two very different places—her island beginnings and the Texas home she is raising her family in now.
Kamalei is proof that an artist's life doesn't always begin in a studio. Sometimes it grows quietly alongside everything else.
