Dorothea Lange

1895-1965

Dorothea Lange (1895–1965) was a renowned American documentary photographer whose evocative images captured the human cost of the Great Depression. Working for the Farm Security Administration, she chronicled the hardships of rural America, giving dignity and visibility to the displaced and impoverished. Her most iconic photograph, "Migrant Mother," remains a symbol of resilience and empathy. Lange’s work not only elevated documentary photography as an art form but also influenced social policy, raising awareness of economic and social injustice. Throughout her career, she strove to reveal the strength and vulnerability of her subjects, leaving a lasting impact on photojournalism.
