Rudolf Koppitz

Rudolf Koppitz (1884–1936) was an Austrian photographer known for his significant contributions to art photography during the interwar period in Vienna. As a Photo-Secessionist, Koppitz skillfully blended straight photography with modernist elements. His iconic work includes the captivating "Bewegungsstudie" (Motion Study) and evocative nudes set against natural landscapes. Born into a rural Protestant family in Austrian Silesia (now part of the Czech Republic), Koppitz honed his craft under the guidance of Czech Symbolist photographer Karel Novák. His wartime experiences as a field and aerial reconnaissance photographer deeply influenced his emotive compositions. Later, he became a respected professor, leaving an indelible mark on the world of photography..
