Brassai

1899-1984

Brassaï (1899-1984), born Gyula Halász in Transylvania, was a Hungarian-born French photographer, sculptor, and writer. Settling in Paris in 1924, he became famous for his dramatic nighttime photographs of the city. His seminal work, "Paris de Nuit" (1933), captured the essence of Parisian nightlife. Brassaï's artistry extended beyond photography to sculpture and writing, and he was celebrated for his unique ability to reveal the soul of Paris through his lens.
