Henry Steiner was born in Austria in 1934. After fleeing Nazi persecution, he immigrated to New York, where he later studied graphic design under Paul Rand at Yale University.
In 1961, Steiner moved to Hong Kong, where he would earn the title "Father of Hong Kong Graphic Design". He pioneered a cross-cultural aesthetic, blending Eastern and Western design traditions to create historic visual identities. His work is visible throughout Hong Kong, including the iconic hexagonal HSBC logo, the Hong Kong Land “H”, the Jockey Club logo and Standard Chartered banknotes.
