Wassily Kandinsky

Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a pioneering Russian painter and art theorist, credited with creating some of the first purely abstract works. He was a pioneer in merging color and form to express spiritual and emotional depth, heavily influenced by music and synesthesia. He was a key figure in German Expressionism (Der Blaue Reiter) and the Bauhaus movement, bridging traditional art with radical modernism. He transitioned from a legal career to art in his 30s, eventually teaching in Germany and France, leaving a legacy as a foundational figure of abstract art.
