About the artist

Jo Anne Dumas

USA

JoAnne Dumas has worked in a wide variety of mediums throughout the span of her art career. She has worked in two-dimensional mediums like pencils and paints, many forms of printmaking, bookmaking and three-dimensional mediums such as carving, foundry, welding and casting. She designed a unique four-harness loom and created woven sculptures, but with the advent of the digital age she began incorporating digital mediums into her work. Her images center on the environment, especially water in every form.

JoAnne has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and has work in corporate collections including Stony Brook University Hospital. She has been the recipient of several New York Foundation for the Arts Grants. Dumas is an active member of the local art community and has facilitated a monthly art forum for artists at the North Shore Public Library, Shoreham, New York, has meet with other visual artist as a NYFA Career Consultant and participated in several international artist residencies and symposiums. She has been invited to offer studio workshops for the New York State Art Teachers’ Association, has taught fine art at SUNY Suffolk and been a guest lecturer at SUNY Farmingdale State College.

JoAnne Dumas is a native of New York City who currently lives and works on Long Island. She received her bachelor and master degrees from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York after which she also studied at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design and the International Center of Photography.
