The painting was created in Jamaica. I collected different plants and leaves and studied their beauty in my studio. The botany in the Caribbean is rich in various forms that always catch my eye. I've been experimenting with outlines. I developed various compositions from the leaves, which I first drew on paper. My goal was not to reproduce the leaves in a natural way, but to create something new, to surprise myself. When painting, I played hide and seek. I covered some of the details with paint, then let them resurface. Playing and taking risks makes the creation process very exciting. My palette dominates blue, turquoise and purple. These are the colors that wake me up in Jamaica in the morning and touch me every time. Every time my family and I are in Jamaica, I combine our family time with creativity.
