Soft waves move across the blue waters of the Salish Sea on a bright and misty day. This photo was created on Exeter Shoal in the Strait of Georgia while sailing along the coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The glassy ripple of the boat wake creates surreal smooth forms across the water surface, with some of the small waves in the foreground appearing to be almost sculptural. Lines of these delicate aquatic textures lead across the open sea to the atmospheric horizon where clouds rise into the springtime sky. The air on this day was calm and warm, and the softness of the water had a dreamy quality that I wasn't sure I could quite capture. With no land in sight the scene felt truly ethereal and I chose to compose the frame with the water details filling the foreground, anchoring the seascape with an alluring sense of distance as the light blue and white colours of the water fade to the horizon.
