Artist’s Statement: In 2007 and 2008, I painted a series of intimate urban landscapes that reflect the architectural character and color of the Jingletown neighborhood, located in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. This enclave of residents new and old, working artists, manufacturers, and small businesses is bordered by the Fruitvale and Park Street bridges. In these paintings, I strive to capture the present as well as echo the past in the context of a changing environment.
