Demetrios Papakostas is a Canadian abstract painter. His approach is rooted in his passion for technical investigation, color spacial and perception. His thoughtful investigation into the subtleties of the relationship between abstract thought and the human condition is characterized by his deep conviction that art must speak of and to heart, mind and soul.
Born in 1960 in Montreal, Demetrios studied art with Nicole Lebel, Heather Yamada and the eminent Canadian painter Harold Klunder at the Saidye-Bronfman Arts Center, Concordia University and the Visual Arts Center.
He is a member of GEOFORM.COM which represents leading artists working mainly in the field of geometric abstraction from around the world. In addition to his practice of painting, Demetrios also runs a rental art gallery attached to his studio and is also a teacher’s assistant to Heather Yamada at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
Demetrios has participated in several exhibitions, at the Latitude 44 Gallery in Toronto, at the Visual Arts Center, at Galerie Espace, Galerie E.K. Voland, Galerie Beaux-Arts des Ameriques, and Galerie Erga in Montreal. Some of his works had been selected to appear in a Quebec film entitled "On the Rhythm".
His work is prized and present in several corporate and private collections.
