Linda Tuma Robertson’s ‘Southern Oregon Coast’ is an oil on canvas painting depicting a coastline and a vast blue ocean. The coastline is made up of large rock formations that emerge throughout the blue water, outlined by the white foam of ocean waves. The composition is framed in the foreground by green leaves and tree branches, one larger tree trunk emerging from the bottom right and ending at the top right of the picture plane. Robertson uses vivid blues for the ocean, and a palette of browns and greens for the coastline. The serenity and calmness of the water is juxtaposed by the roughness of the surrounding rocks and trees, creating a balanced composition. The absence of any figure disconnects us from humanity and allows for the sole appreciation of nature’s beauty.
