This 38" x 48" x 1.25" oil painting on canvas by Boston, Massachusetts-based painter Anthony Dyke is a geometric abstraction of the seaside town Provincetown, Massachusetts. Many of the shapes are irregular, triangular shapes of varying blue hues that represent the water of the Cape Cod coast. Pops of orange, yellow and vivid green make up a busy scene, deconstructed into blocks of color and simplistic forms. Dyke created this scene after a visit to a local outdoor cafe on the beach in Provincetown, the outdoor umbrellas to the left and yellow water buoys to the right. The work inadvertently conveys the bright shine of the summer sun using an energetic color palette, simultaneously capturing the freeing, relaxed feeling of summer.
